MARVIN MEWIS, JR., was born in Bellville, Texas, on May 8, 1945. He passed away Friday, August 19, 2016, in Temple, Texas, at the age of 68. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin, Sr. and Gloria (Delion) Mewis and grandson, Jason Maines. He is survived by his children: Tony Mewis, Sherrie and Ronda Eckharte Mewis, Christina Mewis, Peggy Mewis, all of Houston and Travis Mewis of Brenham; step-children: Owen Scholes of Richmond, Mack Scholes of Big Springs and Jason Maines and wife Michelle, of College Station; grandchildren: Shandale, Myra, Lily and Amy Mewis, Paulo and Roman Rivas, all of Houston, Amanda Maines of Bellville and Madilyn and Braxton Maines of College Station. Marvin is also survived by his brothers: Richard and Kat Mewis of Matagorda, Mark and Dawn Mewis, Mike and Brenda Mewis, Scott Mewis, Tim and Tanya Mewis, all of Bellville; sisters: Judy Matthews of Louisiana, Cindy Lightfoot of Sealy, Pam and Liberty Martinez of Mission; aunt: Virginia and Bobby Wood of Bellville; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Marvin attended Bellville High School. He proudly served in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he met and later married, Darlene Salazar. They were married for over 20 years, raising their five children. Marvin was self employed as a brick mason. In his later years, he showed his artistic talents, making one of a kind rock and brick birdhouses. In 1993, Marvin met Diane Maines. They have shared their lives together for over 23 years and on August 12, 2016, they married. Marvin was a former member of the Bellville Bow Club, where he won numerous trophies and awards. He enjoyed fishing, especially reeling in huge gar with his bow. But, his passion was deer hunting. Marvin was always "waiting for the BIG ONE." The next year, he would be looking for an even bigger one.
