MARY ALICE BOREN, 86, passed from this life at her home in Brookshire, Texas and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Monday, July 11, 2016. Mary Alice was born December 30, 1929, in Shreveport, Louisiana to parents Lester Raymond Parker and Alma Eugenia Wingo Parker. She grew up and attended school in Shreveport. During her senior year of High School, Mary Alice moved to Carthage, Texas where she graduated. Mary Alice attended Southwest Texas State University where she first earned her Bachelor of Science Degree; she then earned her Masters of Education from University of Houston. On December 28, 1946, Mary Alice married the love of her life, Dan Austin Boren in Shreveport, Louisiana. They made their home in San Marcos where they went to Southwest Texas State Teachers College together. They then moved to live in several small towns in Texas including Agua Dulce, Premont, and Bellville, before moving to Brookshire, Texas in 1963. No matter where she lived or what situation she went through, Mary Alice always had a smile on her face. Mary Alice was a teacher for over 30 years and spent the majority of her time teaching Fifth Grade at Royal ISD. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and treasured the time she was able to spend with her family. Mary Alice had several hobbies including camping, playing Bridge and Dominos, as well as traveling with her friends. Last but certainly not least, Mary Alice loved shopping!!!! The most important thing to Mary Alice was her faith and family. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Brookshire where she taught the Adult Sunday School class for many years. Mary Alice wanted to make sure both friends and family knew about Jesus and that He loves them. Even after getting sick, her heart and mind longed to be in church. Mary Alice had the heart of a servant and spent her entire life serving God and her community. She is survived by her LOVING HUSBAND OF 69½ YEARS: Dan Austin Boren; DAUGHTER: Kathryn Boren Hodge; SON: Glenn Eugene Boren; GRANDCHILDREN: Christopher Neelley, Cortney Russell, Austin Boren, Travis Dan Boren, Jordan Boren; GREAT GRANCHILDREN: Kyle Boren, Haylee Boren, Coryn Smith, Jaxon Boren, Collin Russell and Ty Neelley; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Douglas Wayne Boren, her mother, Alma Parker, and her grandson, Douglass Scott Boren.
