Alice E. Thuman

August 23, 1924 — June 20, 2016

Born in 1924 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Cherrington Lee Fisher and Alice Elaine DeBeck Fisher, Alice Thuman graduated as a member of the Cum Laude Society from Walnut Hills in Cincinnati. Then came graduation cum laude from Bryn Mawr College with honors in French Symbolist Poetry. Following college, Alice married Thomas W. Thuman, a Flying Tiger and broadcast executive, also of Cincinnati. Her teaching career stretched far over time, space, and content--French at Lotspeich School in Cincinnati, French at the University of Cincinnati, pre-school music at the Advent in Spartanburg, S.C., and Latin, French and English at St. Thomas' Episcopal in Houston. Alice also did free-lance commercial writing for Storer, TSI, Gordon and Bartell Broadcasting companies, as well as for individual P.I. producers. She received two unsolicited awards in her life. The French government gave her a cash gift as the best writer on a French literary topic of its year. Later, she visited the White House as a designated teacher in the Presidential Scholars Program. After the death of her beloved husband, Alice moved to Waller County into a log cabin of her own design. Here her last years were spent in great happiness, surrounded by ducks, geese, camellias, needlework, puzzles, reading, wild birds, and the love of her family. The mourning children are William Linn Thuman, Bohn and Stephanie Anne Thuman Phillips, John and BeaJay Thuman and the grandchildren William Linn Thuman, Stephani Leigh Thuman, Patrick McCarthy, and Jason Jones. Also her beloved dog Griffin. Alice Thuman was a member of the Bryn Mawr College Alumni Association, the National Conservancy, the American Philatelic Society, the Texas Philatelic Society, the Waller County Republican Party, and the Episcopal Church. She was also majority shareholder in La Mancha Realty. Services are private and for the immediate family. Memorials may be sent to the non-medical charity of your choice. Looking forward to her owl house.
