Mary Frances "Nana Sam" Hunt

October 23, 1929 — February 19, 2016

MARY "NANA SAM" LISEMBEE HUNT was born October 23, 1929 in Houston, Tx. The daughter of James Garden Lisembee and Sudie Mae Lillard. She grew up on the north side of Houston. She moved to the Waller County after high school where she got married and later had 3 children. She moved to Hempstead where she held 3 jobs to support and raise her children. Her children remember fondly of her bringing home pecan pralines from 1 of her jobs at a candy factory in Hempstead and of riding their bikes to the restaurant to have breakfast with her before going to school. She met Doug Hunt, the love of her life, while waitressing at Kelly's in Hempstead. They were married March 24, 1973 and lived at Riverbank Ranch till his retirement. While at the ranch Sam kept a large vegetable garden where she and her many friends enjoyed the richness of her green thumb. Her son Ricky talks fondly of sitting at the table taking turns with the ranch hands with the butter churn for the butter Sam would need as it was her much loved job to feed the many ranch hands during the cow working on the ranch. She and Doug loved to go dancing and spend time with their family. Doug taught her to shoot and she become an avid deer hunter and enjoyed fishing. In later years she worked as a security guard at Hines Nursery and her flower garden grew larger and more beautiful from all the casted off plants from the nursery! After Doug's retirement they both enjoyed taking their RV to nearby lakes to go fishing and with the family reunions. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday February 19, 2016 in Bellville, Tx at the age of 86.
