MERRILL L. "BUD" SCOTT, JR., 79, longtime Brookshire resident, passed away Friday, September 25, 2015, in Brookshire, Texas. Bud was born May 21, 1936, in Lamar, Colorado, the son of Merrill L. Scott, Sr. and Ruth Elizabeth Brown Scott. He grew up and attended school in Cheyenne, Wyoming where he attended Central High School and the University of Wyoming. At the University of Wyoming, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta and Phi Epsilon Phi, and served on the Interfraternity Council. He was also a member of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association and was a member of the Society of the American Military Engineers. In 1956, he was employed by Organic Research Laboratories in Laramie Wyoming. In 1957, he went to work for the Wyoming Highway Department. Bud served his country in the United States Army in Military Intelligence during the Korean War from 1961 - 1967 graduating from the US Army Ordnance Guided Missile School on February 2, 1962. He attained the rank of SP 5 before his honorable discharge on July 31, 1967. After proudly serving his nation, Bud worked with General Electric on the Aerospace Project in Baltimore, Maryland and Syracuse, New York. He was married to Ardis Scheer and was the father of Eric James Scott, Lynn Ann Scott Browning and Jean Marie Scott Aranda. A loving grandfather, he adored his five grandchildren and treasured his great granddaughter. Bud was an avid poker player and was one of the original members of the Brookshire Poker Club where the famous and infamous gathered every other week to play poker and tell lies. He was also a member of The Breakfast Club where at times he was Chairman of the "Bored". An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and watching his grandsons'' sporting events. During the 70''s and 80''s, Bud and Ardis owned and operated several liquor stores and The Place Next Door To The Liquor Store where they regularly hosted town parties. He leaves behind his WIFE: Ardis Scott of Brookshire; CHILDREN: Mayor Eric Scott, also of Brookshire, Lynn Ann Scott Browning of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Jean Scott Aranda of Brenham; GRANDCHILDREN: Brock Browning, Derek Browning, Cortney Aranda Gough and husband, Lucas, Blake Aranda and wife, Brittney, and Gavin Aranda; GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER: Juliet Gough; SISTER: Barbara Scott of Cheyenne, Wyoming; BROTHER-IN-LAW: Jim Ford of Costa Rica; NIECE: Jamie Zapalac; NEPHEW: Charlie Ford; and many other dear friends who he appreciated.
