GEORGE MOODY SHANKS, JR. of Cat Spring, Texas, passed away December 2, 2014, in McKinney, Texas at the age of 73. George was born on June 24, 1941, to George Moody Shanks, Sr. and wife, Nanilee (Allen) Shanks, in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in Houston and graduated from Bellaire High School. After graduation, George attended Sam Houston State University and the University of Texas Law School, earning his Doctorate of Jurisprudence, practicing law in the Houston area. George was united in marriage to Lois (White) Shanks on February 14, 1980, in Sugar Land, Texas. George is survived by his wife: Lois White Shanks, of Cat Spring, Texas; daughter: Heather Shanks Creighton and husband, Chris, of Canton, Michigan; sons: Brett Moody Shanks and wife, Ashley, of Austin, Texas, and Benjamin Robert Shanks and wife, Stefanie, of Wallis, Texas; grandchildren: Hallie, Kate and Luke Creighton, Elisabeth and William Shanks, and Dakota, Nolan and Makala Smith; brother: Richard Allen Shanks, of Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Moody Shanks, Sr. and Nanilee Shanks. George was a member of the local Texas Bar Association; Texas Mortgage Bankers Association; Mortgage Brokers Association of Houston; and the American Cutting Horse Association. George enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf, along with attending University of Texas football games and raising horses.
