MELVIN ROY "BUBBY" GILBERT, 72, of Spring Valley, Texas, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014, at his home. He was born on October 28, 1941, in Bellville, Texas, the son of John Christian and Leona Emma (Pfeffer) Gilbert. Melvin grew up and attended schools in the Bellville area, graduating from Bellville High School, in 1959. After high school, he attended Blinn College for one year. In 1961, Melvin moved to Houston, Texas, where he was employed with the Texas Department of Transportation for five years. On June 20, 1965, Melvin was united in marriage to Carol Ann Frank, at the Industry United Methodist Church, in Industry, Texas. He and Carol made their home in Houston; he then joined the Sheet Metal School and Local Union 54. Melvin and Carol owned and operated Gilco for many years before both retiring. He enjoyed spending time with family and playing with his beloved dog, "Angel." Melvin is survived by his LOVING WIFE OF OVER 49 YEARS: Carol Gilbert of Spring Valley; DAUGHTER: Lisa Michelle Gilbert-Jones of Houston; GRANDCHILDREN: Marc Anthony Jones of Houston and Eleana Mechele Luera of Houston; SISTERS: Connie Gilbert Luedke and her husband, Butch, and Debbie Gilbert Smith, all of Bellville. He is also survived by his SISTER-IN-LAW: Sandra Gilbert of Bellville, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Leona Gilbert and brother, Earl M. Gilbert. Pallbearers are Butch Luedke, R.H. Priesmeyer, David Kaliszewski, Dwayne Gross, Wilbert "Bubba" Frank and Freddie Deutrich.
