Lorene Jeanette Hegar was born on June 16, 1925, in the Kenny area of Austin County, Texas, the daughter of Oscar Fritz and Manila Nettie Chernosky Pfeffer. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church of Bellville. Lorene was educated in the public schools of the Oak Hill area and Bellville. She liked to tell the story of walking from school and how one boy was always teasing her, and she gave him a wallop with her lunch bucket. On December 17, 1974, she was united in marriage to Frank Louis Hegar of Hockley at St. John Lutheran Church of Bellville by Rev. Willie Rotter. They lived on the farm in Hockley where Lorene enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, handwork, and her animals. Most holidays were spent entertaining close and extended family. She had a wonderful life on the farm. Most people from Bellville will remember her as she worked at the Mewis Café, and if you worked on the square or had Sunday lunch there, chances are you were served by Lorene at one of those visits. Lorene is survived by her daughters Peggy Jones and her husband Isaac of Brenham and Patsy Barrett of Bellville; grandchildren Chris Jones of Lubbock, Jason Barrett of Bellville, and Jamie Jones of Dallas; great grandson Derrick Jones of Lubbock; sister-in-law Gloria Pfeffer of Bellville and brother-in-law Alfred "Boots" Hegar of Hockley; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank, son-in-law Robbie Barrett, brothers Lawrence Pfeffer and Woodrow Pfeffer; sisters-in-law Erna Pfeffer and Faye Hegar; brothers-in-law Lawrence Hegar, Sr. and August E. "Slim" Hegar. Lorene entered Eternal Life on Sunday, October 5, 2014. She attained the age of 89years.
