Roy Douglas Thompson, 94, of Bellville, passed away Thursday, August 29th, at his home at Thompson Hereford Ranch. Doug was born March 15th, 1919, in Raccoon Bend, Texas to Johnnie Jennings Thompson and Robert Roy Thompson. Doug graduated from Hempstead High school in 1936 and then attended Texas A&M University studying animal husbandry. He served our country in WWII Company C 55th Armed Infantry Battalion. Doug received an EAME campaign medal with three bronze stars, good conduct medal, victory ribbon, and one overseas service bar. He was a registered Hereford cattle rancher for more than 60 years. Doug was known for his kind heart and witty sense of humor; he was the best neighbor anyone could ever have. If someone was in need, Doug would offer help. He enjoyed having dinner with friends and family at Tony''s Family Restaurant. His loving family includes: wife, of 56 years, Reba Gillespie Thompson; three children: Shirley Ann Krumrey and husband Donald Krumrey, Howard (Bubba) Douglas Thompson, and Alida Marie Wiley and husband Lee Wiley; 4 grandchildren: Robert Thomas Krumrey and wife Melanie, Karen Leigh Meyer and husband Drew, Michael Roy Pettiette, and Christen (Sissy) Nicole Pettiette; six great-grandchildren: Kory, Cooper, and Kayla Krumrey, and Anna, Leah, and Kane Meyer. A.J. McReynolds helped Doug with work on the ranch and was like family. Doug had many great neighbors and life-long friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, mother of his two eldest children, Lucille Clemons Thompson. Honorary Pallbearers for the service were Arlie Dean Kendrick, Tom Grawunder, Manuel Jennings, Billy Maddox, Howard Perry, and AJ McReynolds. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to a scholarship fund of your choice.
