Lynn Arlen Sturm

July 29, 1943 — July 14, 2013

LYNN ARLEN STURM was tragically taken from us and began receiving his well-deserved reward with his loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, July 14, 2013, in Pattison, Texas. A lifelong resident of Brookshire, Lynn was born on July 29, 1943, in Sealy, Texas to Leon and Marie Sturm. Lynn was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He attended the University of Houston before starting his career with his dad at Delta Engineering as a teenager, requesting the hardest manual labor in order to get in shape for football. His dedication led him to wear the #71 jersey and help his Katy Tiger football team to a state championship victory in 1959. He enjoyed hunting and ranching, as well as retirement from Stone and Webster as a Senior Electrical Designer. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren every morning to count the cows. Lynn is survived by his WIFE, the love of his life of over 51 years: Leda (Candy) Sturm; DAUGHTERS: Kim Newman and her husband, Randy, of Katy, Lasetta Sturm of Katy, Nicole Canales and her husband, Eddie, of Pattison; SISTERS: Rue Ann Smith of Sealy, Glenda De La Rosa and husband, Jerry, of Katy, Donna Smith and husband, Willie, of Cypress, Marcella Downum of Cypress; BROTHER: Leon Sturm, Jr. and wife, Donnell, of Cuero; BROTHERS-IN-LAW: Upton (Pepper) Diemer, Jr. of Bellville, Ted Diemer and wife, Debbie, of Brookshire; GRANDCHILDREN: Morgan Newman, Mason Newman, Lawson Newman, Madison Newman, Sydney Canales, Zachary Canales, Coleson Canales; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and great friends. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Leon E. and Marie A. Habacek Sturm, brother, Glenn Sturm, and his grandparents. Lynn will fondly be remembered for his Donald Duck impersonations, his greetings of "What's whoopin'?", and his description of how good food tasted as "That's Larapin!" His girls loved his barbeque, especially his ribs. The Sturm siblings had the humor of calling themselves the "Sturm 6-Pack" because they always stuck together. "A beautiful life you led, an example to us all our precious Lynn, till we meet again." Family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., Thursday, July 18, 2013, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Brookshire, Texas. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, July 19, 2013, at the Pattison United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Newcomb and Pastor Nancy McCready officiating. Interment will follow in the Pattison United Methodist Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service are Brick Diemer, Brad Diemer, Neil Diemer, Jared De La Rosa, Jacob De La Rosa, Chris Krause, and Clay Downum. Honorary pallbearers include Randy Newman, Eddie Canales, Mason Newman, Lawson Newman, Zach Canales, Coleson Canales, Daniel Smith, Cody Cerney, Ted Diemer, Gary Gostecnik, and the 1959 Katy Tiger state championship football team.
