BLANCHE LUCILLE SMITH, 72, of Katy, Texas, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012, in a Houston hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Blanche was born January 23,1940, in Kenedy, Texas. The daughter of Irvin Allen and Grace Decas Woods, she grew up and attended school in Hearne, graduating from Hearne High School. On October 10, 1956, Blanche was united in marriage with James Oxsheer Smith in Houston, Texas. In her younger years, Blanche was employed as a bookkeeper in the construction business. She and Jim made their home in New Mexico, the Houston area and in Hempstead before moving to Katy in 2006. Jim preceded Blanche in death on January 7, 2007 after over 50 years of marriage. A longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Brookshire, Blanche was also a member of the Cinco Ranch Ladies Bible Study Group. She had a passion for gardening and cooking. She also enjoyed fishing, and playing cards and dominoes. A devoted grandmother, she especially treasured the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Blanche is survived by her TWO DAUGHTERS: Patricia Kenjura and her husband, Rodney, of Katy, Texas; Suzanne Oshman and her husband, Hart, also of Katy; 6 GRANDCHILDREN; 7 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN; THREE BROTHERS: Lloyd Woods, Joe Woods and Randy Woods; and many other dear friends and relatives. Blanche was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters: Margaret Stanford, Delores Ormond and Nona Mae Bishop, and her husband, Jim.
