Angelique M. Hubbard

April 3, 1906 — June 19, 2012

ANGELIQUE MIRE RUSSELL HUBBARD was born April 3, 1906, in Kaplan, Louisiana. The daughter of Joseph and Izemy Leger Mire, she grew up in Crowley, Louisiana and attended public school in Kaplan. In 1943, Angel moved to Brookshire, Texas where she was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She married Benjamin Hubbard on May 25, 1972, in Brookshire where they made their home for many years. Angel was wonderful cook, and was well-known for her delicious pies especially her fried pies. She owned and operated the City Café in Brookshire for a number of years. She later opened up the Lemon Tree, also in Brookshire, and was famous for her delicious gumbo. If you didn't get your order in first thing in the morning on Fridays which was the day she always made gumbo, you weren't going to get any. She was always sold out by 11:00 A.M. Angel loved to bowl and played on a league for many years. She was also an avid dancer and enjoyed playing solitaire. When she turned 100 years old, Governor Rick Perry honored her with a beautiful plaque wishing her good health and happiness in the years to come. At that time, she said that she had met one of her two goals in life. One of those goals was to live to be 100 years old in Brookshire. The second goal was to go back to Louisiana. On Saturday she will have achieved both goals when she is laid to rest in the Kaplan Catholic Cemetery in Kaplan, Louisiana. She passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012, in a Katy nursing facility having attained the age of 106 years old. She is survived by her HUSBAND OF 40 YEARS: Benjamin Hubbard of Katy; STEP-DAUGHTERS: Jan Brueggeman of Houston; Judy Divin of Katy; Julia Lockstedt of Canton, Sharon Wood of Hempstead, and Aurilla Higgins and her husband, David; STEP-SON: Harold Hubbard and his wife, Virginia, of Manvel; NIECE: Mae Grace Mouton and her husband, Joseph, of Kaplan, Louisiana; NUMEROUS STEP-GRANDCHILDREN; SPECIAL FRIENDS: Beverly Adams of Katy, and Arron, Sandra and Arriona Jackson of Brookshire; and many other dear friends and other relatives. Angel was preceded in death by her parents, and eight brothers and sisters.
