William "Pete" Rutledge

WILLIAM PINCKNEY "PETE" RUTLEDGE, 91, of Bellville, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012, in a Brenham hospital. Pete was born May 18, 1921, in Houston, Texas. The son of Donald V. and Birdie Viola Cassels Rutledge, he grew up and attended school in Houston. After graduating from Marshall High School, Pete joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II in Rome, Naples, France and Central Europe. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star. After his honorable discharge, he worked at several different jobs before finding his place at the Houston Chronicle. He retired after 20 years of employment and then went to work at Walmart in Hempstead as a greeter. He truly enjoyed getting to visit with all the customers as they came through the doors. On July 3, 1971, Pete married Elizabeth Ida Robertson in Houston. They made their home in Bellville and together they enjoyed fishing and traveling to places such as Hawaii, Mexico, Italy and Jamaica. Elizabeth preceded Pete in death on March 9, 2006. Pete is survived by HIS CHILDREN: Johnny McCullough, Rebecca Herren and her husband, Ray, Jim Moore and his wife, Darlene, Kathy Kaufmann and her husband, David, Martha "Sugar" Wendt and her husband, Ray; ADOPTED DAUGHTER: Patricia "Pat" Rogers; GRANDCHILDREN: Shelly McCullough, John McCullough, Adam McCullough, Henry Herren, Lee Herren, Gina Williamson, Angela Winn, Michael Moore, Ashley Moore, James Kaufmann, David Kaufmann, Stephen Wendt, Nathan Wendt, Arthur Wayne Moore, Thomas Moore and Derrick Rogers; GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Courtney, Howard, Brandon, Tyler, Sabrina, Breanne, Peggy Sue, Jace, Jaxson, Danielle, Summer, Madison, McKenzie, Aubin, Brianna, Camryn, Colt, Roger, Jr., Alex, Alistair, Lexi, Louis, Sam Houston, Katie; GREAT GREAT GRANDSON: Peyton; and numerous other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elizabeth, sons, Arthur Wayne Moore and James Rutledge, and two sisters.
