Petra Gonzales Perez

February 18, 1922 — April 16, 2012

PETRA GONZALES PEREZ, 90, longtime Brookshire resident, passed away Monday, April 16, 2012, in a Katy hospital. Petra was born February 18, 1922, in Laredo, Texas. The daughter of Pedro DeLeon and Petra Rivera Gonzales, she grew up in Laredo where she met and married Guillermo Hernandez. They made their home in Houston. Guillermo preceded her in death. Petra later married Martin Perez and in 1948, they moved to Brookshire where they were members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. And although Petra was a member of Sacred Heart, she enjoyed visiting all the local churches in Brookshire. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Petra enjoyed cooking and sewing, and treasured the time she was able to spend with her family. She also enjoyed traveling, gardening and socializing, especially visiting with her comadres. She always made sure that she fed anybody that came to visit her. She loved her dogs, stuffed animals and listening to Tejano music. Martin preceded her in death on April 29, 1969. Petra is survived by her CHILDREN: Gloria Rodriguez and her husband, Angelo, of Galveston, Matilda Munoz of Cypress, Linda Perez of Houston, Tony Lerma and his wife, Delfina, of Katy, Vincent Perez of Houston, Guillermo Hernandez, also of Houston, Martin Perez and his wife, Mary, of Cypress, and John Perez and his wife, Michele, of Houston; her BELOVED GRANDCHILDREN; GREAT GRANDCHILDREN; GREAT GREAT GRANDCHILDREN; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Petra was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Gilbert Hernandez, six sisters and three brothers.
