DAVID ALEXANDER, SR., 90, longtime Brookshire educator, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012, in a Brookshire nursing facility. Mr. Alexander was born July 8, 1921, in Oakwood, Texas. The son of Arthur, Sr. and Lillie (Johnson) Alexander, he grew up and attended school in Oakwood graduating from St. Paul-Shiloh High School. He then served his country in the United States Army during World War II. After his honorable discharge, Mr. Alexander attended Prairie View A&M University where he earned his BS of Agriculture and his Masters of Education. Mr. Alexander then returned to Oakwood where he taught high school. In 1967, he moved to Brookshire to teach at Royal, and retired in 1990 after 23 years of service to the district. Active in community affairs, Mr. Alexander had served as a Brookshire City Councilman and on the Brookshire-Pattison Volunteer Ambulance Corps. He was a member of the Brookshire-Pattison AARP, Prairie View Retired Teachers Association, Friends of FFA and had served as the Grand Marshall of the Royal FFA Parade. He was also a devoted member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church and looked forward to attending services on Sunday mornings. A well-read gentleman, Mr. Alexander enjoyed hunting, and playing cards and dominoes, but his passion in life was politics. He leaves behind his TWO BROTHERS: Roosevelt Alexander and his wife, Gracie, of Brookshire, Texas and Richard Alexander and his wife, Lois, of Lawton, Oklahoma; TWO SISTERS: Venola Neal of Franklin, Texas, and Ollie Bell Gipson and her husband, Alvin, of Arcola, Texas; DAUGHTER: Tonya Branch of Dallas, Texas; GRANDCHILDREN: Cher Davis, Elton Green, Rodney Green, Melshecka Sager, Tandelyn Green Toya Stewart, David Alexander, III and Andre Branch; and many other dear friends and other relatives.
