REVEREND JOHN B. FOSTER, JR. was born November 21, 1922, in Brookshire, TX, the son of J. B. and L. A. Sampson Foster, Sr. He grew up in Brookshire where he attended school graduating from the Brookshire Colored High School. He then served his country in the United States Navy during World War II from 1941-1950, receiving the American Defense Medal and the Asian Pacific Theater Commendation Medal. On November 2, 1947, John was united in marriage to the late Esther M. Smith Foster, in Houston, TX. To this union eight children were born. John attended Texas Southern University in Houston, graduating in 1956, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. He also attended the Houston Bible Institute. John and Esther made their home in Brookshire where they were devoted members of, and where John served as an Ordained Minister of, the Curry's Chapel Baptist Church. Active in community and county affairs, John was a life member of the Waller County Democratic Club, past member of the Montgomery Temple Masonic Lodge, #106 and Past President of the Brookshire Municipal Water District. He was also a member of the Waller County Grand Jury Association., John passed from Earth to Glory on Friday, November 11, 2011, in a Katy hospital at the age of 88 with his children by his side. He is survived by his CHILDREN: Beverly Foster, Jerrolyn Brandyburg and her husband, Lawrence, Elton R.R. Foster and his wife, Kathy, and Victor Foster, all of Brookshire, Darlene Flowers and her husband, Byron, and Vivian Foster-Cook of Houston, Rupert Foster and his wife, Cynthia, of Lawton, OK; DAUGHTER-IN-LAW: Jennifer Foster of Houston; 19 GRANDCHILDREN, 17 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN; BROTHER: Harold Foster of San Antonio; SISTERS: Brenda Anderson and Carol Young, both of Houston, and Helen Foster of Los Angeles, CA; STEP-MOTHER: Ruby Foster of Houston; GOD-BROTHER: Bruce Banks; and many other dear friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther M. Foster, mother, L.A. Rogers, step-father, Ruffin Rogers, father, J.B. Foster, Sr., son, Minister Alexander T. Foster, and grandchildren, Bettina and Eusavio Patterson. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, John loved his family dearly and treasured the moments he was able to spend with them.
