Arno Charles Meyer

ARNO CHARLES MEYER was born August 8, 1931, in Marion, Texas, the son of Arthur H. and Adele Scheffel Meyer. He grew up and attended Scheffel School in Marion, graduating from Marion High School in 1948. He then attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin and Trinity University in San Antonio. Arno was drafted into the United States Army in 1952, and served his country during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1954. Arno married Dorthy Goebel on November 12, 1954, in Seguin. They made their home in San Antonio and Kirby where Arno was employed as a supervisor for the aircraft machine shop at Kelly Air Force Base before his retirement in 1989. Arno and Dorthy have called the Millheim Community their home for the past 20 years. A member of the Bellville United Methodist Church, Arno was a life member of the VFW Post #6522, a member of the Texas Sportsman Association and President of the Millheim Hall Association. He also belonged to the Horticulture Society, and had served as scout leader for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop #28 in San Antonio and Troop #259 in Kirby. He also enjoyed coaching his church's softball team and playing men's league softball. Arno had also served on San Antonio's Highland Terrace Church Council. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Arno treasured his family, extended family and his friends. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed tending to his cattle and his pecans, and hunting. He also enjoyed a good game of dominoes, and visiting with friends and family. Arno passed away unexpectedly Sunday, October 16, 2011, at his home, at the age of 80. He is survived by his LOVING WIFE OF OVER 56 YEARS: Dorthy Goebel Meyer of Millheim; SONS: Winston Meyer and his wife, Adrienne, Timothy Meyer and his wife, Debbie, Thomas Meyer and his wife, Patty, and Steven Meyer and his wife, Dianna; GRANDCHILDREN: Dustin Meyer, Clayton Meyer and his wife, Candis, Kelsey Meyer, Tabitha Meyer Garrett and her husband, Kevin, Ashley Meyer Savage and her husband, Ryan, Cody Meyer, Katy Meyer, Heather Meyer, Katie Golden and her husband, Wade, Lindsay Sorenson and her husband, Todd, Emily Duncan, Jeanine Ossee and her husband, Greg, and Jodie Grubbs; and GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Vivian Garrett, Kenshin Garrett, Abigail Golden, Kambrie Golden, Deagen Ossee and Bailey Ossee. He is also survived by his BROTHER: Arthur Meyer and his wife, Mildred; SISTERS: Ottilia Winklemann, Elizabeth Cogswell and her husband, Paul, and Caroline West; BROTHER-IN-LAW: Franklin Goebel; SISTER-IN-LAW: Sydell Swearingen; EXTENDED FAMILY: Avis Pouncey, Teresa, Amber and Lanie Kelly; and numerous cousins and dear friends. Arno was preceded in death by his parents, sister Adeline Heider, father-in-law and mother-in-law Alvin and Ethel Goebel, sister-in-law Earline Goebel, and brothers-in-law Jake Swearingen and Vernon Winklemann
