HELEN CATHERINE (LANDRUM) WAAK was born in La Porte, Texas on July 6, 1932, to Catherine (Roberts) and Charles Landrum. She attended Bellville High School graduating in 1949. She met her husband, Conway Lloyd Waak, Sr., at Coshatte Hall, and they were married on June 3, 1950. She and her husband, Conway, were known for having been the proprietors of Waak's Sausage and meat Market. The traditional German sausage recipe and the market's reputation for choice, fresh cuts of meats provided many tasty meals for Austin County and the surrounding areas. Sandy Oaks Fox Pen and a trailer park have been additional business ventures for Helen. She belonged to the Bellville United Methodist Church where she attended adult Sunday school classes, and was the charter president of the Austin County Aggie Mom's Club of which she always remained active. Helen enjoyed many crafts from woodworking to quilting. She took great pleasure in numerous card and domino games. She always promoted living in the country and loved the Bellville location where she could fish and go hunting with Conway. Lately, she would be found sitting in her rocker on the back porch watching her birds and enjoying her flowers along with her cat, Precious. Most of all, Helen loved her family of 5 children, a sister, 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous in-laws. Helen always had a lively personality and often proved to be the life of the party. Her many witty comments could get everyone laughing. She was even getting chuckles from the nurses and doctors during her recent heart surgery.
