Barkley Young Lynn was born August 30, 1928, in Kenney, Texas, the son of Collins M. Lynn and Alice Allen Lynn. His mother Alice died in 1934, when B. Y. was just 6 years old. His father remarried to Bertha Peters Lynn. He attended grade school in Kenney and high school in Bellville, graduating with the class of 1946. Upon graduation he went to work for San Bernard Electric Coop in Bellville, where he worked until entering the United States Army in April of 1952. He was discharged in April of 1954, and began working for the Texas Department of Transportation as a draftsman, retiring in 1985 with 30 years of service. B.Y. enjoyed his cattle, hunting with his friends, music (both listening to and making) with an accordion, harmonica, organ or #3 washtub. He also enjoyed his friends at the Kenney store, traveling with his wife Peggy and friends and drawing cartoons on napkins, paper plates, or paper sacks. He enjoyed a full and healthy life up to his 80th year. B.Y. passed away in the Bellville General Hospital on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the age of 82. He survived by SISTER-IN-LAW: Doris Lynn and numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and two step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Lynn, parents C.M. and Alice Lynn, step mother Bertha Lynn, three brothers, Japhet, Edgar and Thomas, and one sister Mary Alice Gourley.PALLBEARERS: Jon Lynn, Joe Ed Lynn, Chip Gourley, Chuck Gourley, Carlos Loeffler, and Floyd Mikeska.
