William Francis Benson

William F. "Bill" Benson was born April 12, 1919, in Dallas, Texas, he grew up from the age of 9 until the age of 18 at the Corsicana Orphanage Home in Corsicana, Texas, where he graduated from high school in 1938. Bill then began his college education. When World War II broke out, Bill went into the United States Army to serve as a proud member of the 36th Infantry Division from 1940-1945. He saw action in North Africa, Italy, France Germany and Austria. As a result of those actions, he received numerous awards and decorations. He continued to keep in contact with members of the 36th Division and enjoyed the camaraderie of those men the rest of his life. He was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Bill married Rozella Vera Richter in 1947. The family settled in Bellville, where he worked in the oil industry, retiring for Exxon after 30 years. Bill passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, at the age of 92. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, SON: Richard A. Benson of Prairie View; DAUGHTER: Becky Benson Meador and her husband, Larry, of Katy; SON: Michel Frett and his wife, Josiane, of France; GRANDCHILDREN: Brandon Benson, and his wife, Courtney, Brigham Benson, Lauren Meador, Jacob Meador and his wife, Jill, Josh Meador and his wife, Shelly, John Ginther, and Morgan Frett and her husband, Benjamin; GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Landon Benson, Brinley Benson, Grace Meador, Jensen Meador, Madison Meador, Morgan Meador, Simon Pomares, Parker Ginther, and Marcus Forrest. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Rozella Richter Benson, parents, and son, Billy Benson.
