Dorothy Jewel Garrison Sandino, 76, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 29, 2011, in Bellville, Texas. She was born on August 23, 1934, in Montpelier, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her mother, Goldie Helen Lamley Garrison and father, William Allen Garrison, husband, Benny Bernie "Sandy" Sandino, daughter Cheryl Lynette Wooley, and siblings Elizabeth Ellen Kizer (Tom), William Howard Garrison (Bertha), Mary Jane Cutright (Jim), Anna Belle Ward (Bill), George Gerald Garrison (Evalee), Joseph Reed Garrison, Robert Jack Garrison (Louise), and Donna Mae Bennett. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Kay Ellington (William E., Jr.) of Katy, daughter, Tami Lea Alexander (Glen) of Bellville, brother, Franklin Allen "Sparky" Garrison (Mildred) of Montpelier, IN, sister, Sandra Jean Roark (John) of Whitestown, IN, and sister, Judith Sue Peck (John) of Spring. "Mimi" is also survived by grandchildren Corey Simms of Roswell, NM, Sheree Griffith of Huntsville, Audrey and Anne Ellington of Katy, Andrew Alexander (Jessica) of Gatesville, Stephen Alexander (Mandy) of Lubbock, Mary Alexander and John Michael Alexander of Bellville. Her great grandchildren include Baylea Simms, Payton Usery, Zachary, Nicholas, and Christopher Griffith, Abigail Alexander, and Makayla Alexander. She will also be greatly missed by a host of in-laws, relatives and friends. "Dottie" grew up in Montpelier, Indiana, and graduated from Blackford County High School. She moved with her husband to Houston and raised her family in Spring Valley in the Spring Branch area. Mrs. Sandino worked in Spring Branch ISD in various positions including Special Education Aide. After completing her Elementary Education degree at the University of Houston, she taught Kindergarten, K-1 and First Grade. She retired from teaching in 1985 but, continued as a substitute for years until moving to Bellville. Aside from teaching, she loved spending time with neighbors, family and friends. Her favorite activities include playing the piano, singing, dancing, and more recently, gardening and working crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles. Dottie was also an avid Astros fan.
