MAURINE GRAFTON NAIL of Bryan, Texas, longtime Bellville resident, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011, in Bryan at the age of 91. Maurine was born January 16, 1920, in Panola County, Texas. The daughter of Fate and Lillian Collins Grafton, she was raised and attended school in Gary, Texas, graduating from Gary High School in 1937. On March 1, 1937, Maurine was united in marriage with Walter Leon Nail. They made their home in Gary for four years before moving to Galveston, Texas in 1941 when Walter went to work for Santa Fe Railroad. Six years later they moved to Bellville, Texas where they remained for the next sixty-six years. While in Bellville, Maurine was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Bellville Golf and Recreation Club. Most recently when their health began to fail, Maurine and Walter had moved to Bryan to be closer to family. A devoted wife and mother, Maurine treasured the time she spent at home caring for her family and raising her children. She also enjoyed working in her garden raising vegetables for her family and in her younger years was an avid golfer. She is survived by her DEVOTED HUSBAND OF OVER 74 YEARS: Walter Nail of Bryan, Texas; TWO SONS: Horace Nail and his wife, Myrna, also of Bryan, and Owen Nail and his wife, Janice, of Statham, Georgia; 7 GRANDCHILDREN; 12 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN; SISTER: Jo Alice Birnie and her husband, Charlie, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; BROTHER: James R. Grafton and his wife, Sue, of Carthage, Texas; DAUGHTER-IN-LAW: Anna Nail of Brenham, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Maurine was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Jerry Nail, in 2008.
