GERTRUDE MAE "SUSIE" HAHN MEINEN was born December 6, 1917, in Brenham, Texas. She was the daughter of Gertrude Mundelius Hahn and Henry C. Hahn, Sr. Susie departed this world peacefully, March 25, 2011, at the age of 93 following a massive stroke. Susie grew up in Brenham, graduated from Brenham High School in 1935, and attended Blinn College and Houston's Massey Business College. On September 2, 1949, Susie was united in marriage with Delphine William "Sonny" Meinen. Susie and Sonny moved to Bellville in 1952, where she worked with Sonny in his insurance business. She had previously worked as a bookkeeper for Humble Exxon Oil, Farmers National Bank and Mundelius Print Shop. Sonny preceded Susie in death in 2001, after 52 wonderful years of marriage with love and fun. Susie was baptized and confirmed a Lutheran and was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville. She served on many church committees until her death. Susie was very involved in community activities. She was a charter member of the Ladies Golf Association. Each Wednesday she worked with the Austin County Cancer Angels. One of the things she liked to do most was to go on the Cancer Angels' overnight trips to gamble at a casino in Louisiana! She also enjoyed listening to the music and playing Chicken Foot and other domino games on Thursday nights at the Kenney Store. Reading and all sports had a very special place in her heart. She and Sonny loved dancing, golfing and going fishing together. Susie lived a life of great faith and love. Her glowing smile, positive attitude, enthusiasm and wisdom were shared with everyone she knew. Susie's abundance of love, willingness to listen and being there just for you, were only a few of her special qualities. Her list of friends is endless -always referring to them as "her children" and "a blessing." Susie was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Robert and Henry Hahn.
