Gilbert Gonzales Hernandez,

GILBERT GONZALES HERNANDEZ, SR. ended his courageous battle with cancer Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at his home in Brookshire surrounded by his family. He was 63 years old. Gilbert was born February 18, 1947, in Houston, Texas. The son of Guillermo Hernandez, Sr. and Petra Gonzales Hernandez, he grew up and attended the Royal schools. On August 20, 1966, Gilbert married Celia Campos in Brookshire. They made their home in Brookshire. Gilbert was employed in the maintenance department at Katy ISD for ten years, before going to work for the Cy-Fair ISD. After becoming too ill to work, he took a medical retirement after nine years of service. Gilbert enjoyed doing handiwork in his spare time and was always happy to fix anything that broke, especially for his grandchildren. A lover of baseball, he was an Astros fan. He always had a smile on his face, and was especially happy whenever he was able to spend time with his family. He also enjoyed the numerous vacations he was able to take with his family. He leaves behind his WIFE OF OVER 44 YEARS: Celia Hernandez of Brookshire; DAUGHTER: Betty Cox and her husband, Cory, of Houston; SON: Gilbert Hernandez, Jr. and his wife, Sandra, of Katy; GRANDCHILDREN: Stephanie, Saige and Alex Hernandez, also of Katy; MOTHER: Petra Perez of Brookshire; BROTHERS: Bill Hernandez, Martin Perez, Johnny Perez, Vincent Perez, all of Houston and Tony Lerma of Katy; SISTERS: Gloria Rodriguez of Galveston, Matilda Munoz of Houston and Linda Perez of Katy; and many other dear friends and other relatives. Gilbert was preceded in death by his fathers, Guillermo Hernandez and Martin Perez.
