John D. Weir of Bellville, TX passed away Friday, January 21, 2011, after a brief illness. A great family man and friend, he will be remembered by all who he met and spent time with. Starting life on April 10, 1930, in Tenaha, TX, John went on to be a military man and a proud husband. With his wife, of 56 years, Virginia, they created a home in Houston for their 4 daughters, 7 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson. After 26 years with the Houston Chronicle, John's retirement was spent enjoying time with his family and his many hobbies (fishing, boating, traveling and work camping) as well as building the house in Bellville where he spent the past 15 years. He enjoyed a retirement career as a sewing machine repairman. To say that he will be sorely missed would be a great understatement. John was preceded in death by his daughter Jean, his mother Rachel, his father Henry, and his sister Helen. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; children Jane Kress (Kevin), Karen Hallquist (Mark),Diane Lemma(Norman); grandchildren Kerri Kress-Chucci (Keith), Sean Hallquist, Travis Hallquist, Kory Kress, K. Jacob Kress, Ashley Lemma, Amber Lemma and great grandson Kameron Kress will all cherish the memories of John and his spirit will live on in their hearts. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bellville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or to the charity of your choice.
