On this 22nd day of January, 2011, we say goodbye to MARIA CRISTINA BECKER. She will be remembered as a wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend to many. A resident of Brookshire, Texas, Maria left us on Monday, January 17, 2011, in Katy, Texas from complications with pneumonia. Maria Christina (Jimenez) Becker was born in Bogota, Colombia on June 2, 1943, to Hernando Jimenez Bernal and Leonor Forero De Jimenez, At the early age of 8, Maria's family migrated to New York City in 1951. The older sister of Nohra and Connie, Maria took it upon herself to watch and parent over her two younger siblings. She made sure her two sisters made it to school, got their work completed, and tried her best to keep Nohra out of trouble. One of her fondest memories growing up was watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Many years later, as a mother, Maria tried in vain to get her children to enjoy the parade on television. On February 12, 1972, Maria married Alfie Becker on the small island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea. They met each other about a year before in Buenos Aires, Argentina while both were employed for Global Marine Drilling. Alfie worked as a mechanic, and Maria as an office secretary. Maria secretly monitored Alfie's mail in an attempt to court the young mechanic into a relationship. Her actions paid off with Alfie proposing during one of his leaves from work on the island of Capri. Marie is survived by her HUSBAND: Alfie Becker of Brookshire; HER THREE CHILDREN: Ivonne Addison and her husband, Kyle, of Portland, Oregon, Andy Becker of Huntington Beach, California and Bonnie Russell and her husband, Rob, of Costa Mesa, California; HER TWO GRANDCHILDREN: Alden Addison and Walter Addison; HER TWO SISTERS: Nohra Armstrong and her husband, Michael, of Houston, Texas and Consuelo De Mendez and her husband, Francisco, of Bogota, Columbia; NEPHEWS: Daniel Mendez, Francisco Alberto Mendez and Andres Mendez; NIECE: Paola Barr; and her dog, Yogi. She didn't care for Alfie's chickens, ducks, geese and turkey. She was preceded in death by her parents. Her legacy will be her love for all, her devotion to her husband, her care for her three children, and her dedication to all her friends and family spread throughout the states and the world. In her travels to see Andy and Bonnie in California, she always made it a point to visit old friends. Her final trip was in December to visit her grandchildren in Oregon despite already being sick. There was nothing more important than family and friends! Maria gave love to all required none in return.
