George Gaylen Rice

GEORGE GAYLEN RICE, beloved father, husband and friend to many, passed away on 26th December, 2010, at the age of 66, at his home in Sealy, Texas. He was born in Liberty , Mississippi , but made a name for himself on the football fields of Baton Rouge , LA. A graduate of Istrouma High School , he was known for his physical toughness and became a literal powerhouse as a two-way First Team All State tackle, leading the Indians to the 1961 State Championships. At LSU he was an immediate force and integral part of both the offense and defense, playing on the "first team," two-way White Squad of the Tigers' famed three-platoon team. As a senior, he was named first team All American in 1965. A first-round draft choice of the Chicago Bears, Rice instead signed with the Houston Oilers as their third-round pick. Mr. Rice is a lifelong lover of the outdoors and could frequently be found hunting or talking about hunting. His love of the sport of sporting clays is matched only by his love for his friends and family. Mr. Rice is survived by his wife, Carol, daughter, Wendy Gaddis, son, Kevin Rice, daughter, Terry Rice, stepson Brian Blazejack, sister Cagelene Crawford, first wife Lee Rice, and Grandchildren Ashley, Courtney, Nicholas, Zachary, and Kelsey.
