JOHN GILBERT "JOHNNY" LYERLY, was born December 19, 1946, in Houston, TX, the son of Lloyd H. & Minnie Williams Lyerly. He graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1965 and then attended The University of Texas in Austin. John enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam Conflict and in Thailand and Guam. He was honorably discharged after 6 years of service. After serving his country he was employed at Brown & Root, G.O. George Welding and later 3 1/2 years with KBR-Iraq. John lost his battle with cancer on September 9, 2010, at the age of 64, with his family by his side at his home in Hallettsville, TX. He is survived by his loving and devoted WIFE: Betty McDowell Lyerly; SISTER: Virginia L. Lyerly, of Brookshire; SONS: Lt. Col. John Shannon Lyerly, U.S. Army,Hawaii; James Hancock, of Brookshire; DAUGHTERS: Leilani Lyerly Weber and her husband, Max, of Cypress; Monica Hancock Graf, and her husband, Rick, of Sealy; 3 GRANDCHILDREN: Malia Weber, Maggie Weber and Briana Bloomfield; BELOVED FRIEND: Dr. Amy Hoffpauir, DVM, of Katy. John was preceded in death by his parents, brother, David L. Lyerly, grandparents, Joseph and Julia Lyerly and Samuel "Tip" Whitmel and Della Smith Williams. A Celebration of Life will be held in Pattison at a later date.
