Gladys Swearingen

GLADYS GOEBEL SWEARINGEN was born August 9, 1922, in Bellville, Texas. The daughter of Reinhold and Selma Himly Goebel, she grew up in Cat Spring and Millheim, and attended the Millheim schools. Gladys married Wesley Swearingen in Bellville, Texas on July 2, 1940. They made their home in Millheim and were members of St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Gladys enjoyed being a homemaker. She was a great cook, and her family especially loved her dewberry pies. She loved taking care of her cows, making hay and shredding. And, in her younger years, she enjoyed trapping and skinning raccoons with her grandsons. She was an avid domino player, and taught her great grandchildren how to play. Gladys passed away Monday, July 12, 2010 in a Bryan hospital at the age of 87. She is survived by her DAUGHTER-IN-LAW: Nancy Swearingen of Millheim; GRANDCHILDREN: Kevin Swearingen of Bellville, Chad Swearingen and his wife, Laura, of Sealy, and Marci Rabius and her husband, Butch, of Cat Spring; GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Brandon, Taylor, Courtney, Rayann and Callen; STEP-GREAT GRANDSON: Trevor and his wife, Jaclyn; STEP-GREAT GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER: Paityn. She is also survived byher SISTERS-IN-LAW: Sydell Swearingen and Nettie Swearingen; NEPHEWS: Tommy Stewart and his wife, Debbie, and Mike Stewart and his wife, Jackie; NIECES: Francis Sechelski and her husband, Pat, and Gwen Reinhardt; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wesley, son, Calvin Swearingen, infant daughter, Delores Swearingen, brothers-in-law, Jasper Swearingen and his wife Isabell, Aaron, Marvin and Jake Swearingen, and sister-in-law: Myrtle Stewart. Funeral Service was held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Henske and Pastor Jennie Jones officiating. Scripture was read by Jackie Stewart and Cheryl Reynolds. Burial followed in the Millheim Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tommy Stewart, Mike Stewart, Neil Aschenbeck, Jeff Haugen, Pat Sechelski and John Stewart.
