Evelyn M. Nehrkorn

EVELYN M. (GOEKE) NEHRKORN, longtime Bellville resident, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010, in a Bellville nursing facility at the age of 85. Born July 15, 1924, in the Germania Community in Austin County, Texas, Evelyn was the daughter of Emanuel and Clara (Wesetzke) Goeke. She grew up and attended school in Austin County before moving to Galveston, and then Houston, to work. She later returned to Bellville where she met and fell in love with Alburney Nehrkorn. They were married in Bellville on April 27, 1947. Alburney's work with San Bernard Electric, took them first to Hallettsville, and then Columbus. In 1953, they returned to Bellville where they were members of St. John Lutheran Church. Alburney preceded Evelyn in death on March 11, 1995, after almost 48 years of marriage. Evelyn enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, and taking trips with the bank to various casinos. She was a member of the Bellville VFW Auxiliary, the Garden Club and the LCW. She leaves behind her DAUGHTER: Cynthia Heffner and her husband, Frank Samohyl, of Bellville; THREE GRANDCHILDREN: Duane Heffner, of Bellville, and Jamie Nehrkorn and Craig Nehrkorn, both of Austin; other relatives and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Glenn Nehrkorn, two brothers and one sister.
