Millard Fillmore Clegg

Millard Fillmore Clegg, Jr., was born November 5, 1922, in Houston, Texas, the son of Millard F. Sr. and Zubie Dunn Clegg. He was a lifelong resident of Houston and Austin County. He grew up in various towns throughout Texas and graduated from El Campo High School in 1939 while the family was living on the Pierce estate. Millard went on to attend the Rice Institute, graduating in 1943 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation, Millard joined the United States Army Air Corps as a Second Lieutenant and was honorably discharged on February 6th, 1946. Upon his discharge from the service he went to work as an engineer for the Humble Oil & Refining Company and spent his entire career with the gas division of Humble, later Exxon, retiring from EPR in 1980. A Methodist by faith, Millard was united in marriage to Dorothy Daniel, on June 14, 1947 in Simonton, Texas. Millard loved spending time with his wife and family at his farm near Kenney, and later his home in Bellville, and always loved the visits by his children and grandchildren. One of the great passions in his life was his love of family history and genealogy. He was one of the first contibutors to the World Family Tree in the 1980's and his research is still used by people today. Millard passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2010, in Boerne, Texas, at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Clegg of Boerne; sons: Brantley Clegg and his wife, Magda, of Houston, Dan Clegg and his wife, Laura, of Colorado and Bruce Clegg of Katy; daughter: Ellen Gamble and her husband, Jerry, of Boerne. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; brother: Joe Dunn Clegg and his wife, Margaret, of Houston; aunt: Jane Dunn of Austin and sister-in-law: Edwina Daniel of Pipe Creek and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Millard was preceded in death by his parents.
