ALLAN OLIVER WOODS, 86, of Bellville, Texas, passed away Monday, January 17, 2022, in Cypress, Texas.
Allan was born September 28, 1935, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Albert Oliver and Maude (Caswell) Woods. Allan grew up and attended schools in the Flint area. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force and served his country until he was honorably discharged in July 1965.
During his deployment to England, Allan met and married the love of his life, Margaret Pope. They were united in marriage in Ipswich, England on April 12, 1955. They soon made their home in Houston, where Allan worked as an engineer for Dresser, Hydril, and KVM Technologies.
During this time, he re-enlisted in the Air National Guard to complete his 20 years of service and retire as a Senior master Sergeant (E-8).
Although Allan was a strict military man, he had such a soft spot for all his little kitty cats and making sure they all had the love and care they needed. He loved being a private pilot and flying every chance he got. That is how he found Bellville. He was flying around one day and saw the little airport and decided to land and look around the town. He fell in love with the small town and soon he and mom bought their Bellville place. Dad spent the weekends for 10 years building their dream home and eventually made Bellville their home in 1997.
He also loved restoring old cars (especially 59 Chevys). Tinkering with electronics was another of his favorite hobbies.
Allan was a very proud military man. He established the Lone Star Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol which would meet at The Grawunder Airport every week. The cadets learned all about the Air Force and prepared them for enlistment. Several cadets did their solo fights and got their private pilot’s license.
He is survived by his wife of over 66 years: Margaret Woods of Bellville; daughters: Sandra Kramer and her husband Keith of Houston, Maria Cochran and her husband Ross of Liberty Hill, and Susan Kelley and her husband MED of Windham, ME Tina Woods of Bellville; granddaughter: Samantha Hinnant, Jennifer Cochran, Laura Cochran, and Autumn Cochran; great-grandsons: Michael Cochran, Christopher Cochran, Arthur Kramer, Stephen Kelley, Michael Kelley, and Brogan Kelley; four great-great-grandchildren, and one on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
We would like to give a special thanks to David Story for all his unwavering love and support he has shown for our family.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Maude Woods, and two sisters Fran Sauer, and Carol Burse.
