Antoinette Inez (Mertes) Arens, 91, of Sealy, passed away Monday, June 12, 2017, in Katy. She was born July 24, 1925, in Evanston, Illinois. The daughter of John J. and Barbara “Birdie” Udelhofen Mertes, she grew up and attended school in Chicago, Illinois, graduating from Mundelein High School. Antoinette live in various places in Texas, Florida and Illinois before making her home in the Lazy River area of Sealy, Texas. During her working years, she was employed as a bookkeeper in the funeral industry. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she loved her family and friends, treasuring the time she was able to spend with them. She enjoyed digging in her yard, and loved being outside with her shovel. She also was an avid knitter. Antoinette is survived by her children: Danell of Salado and Greg of Monaville; son-in-law: Steve of Cat Spring; grandchildren: Shannon of Brenham, BoJack and wife, Karen, of Kerrville, Keely and fiancé, James, of Columbus and Bridgette and fiancé, Casey of Salado; great grandchildren: Briley, Payton, Keirson, Canon, Wyatt, Chloe and Drake; and many other relatives in California, Illiois and Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her youngest daughter, Kim Mary, and her daughter-in-law, Chere Ranelle. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Antoinette’s life.
