Betty Jo Jahnke

BETTY JO JAHNKE, 96, of Bellville, Texas passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at her home. She was born April 2, 1925, in Bellville, Texas, the daughter of R.H. and Wyona Lucille Reinecker Jahnke. BJ grew up and attended schools in Bellville, graduating from Bellville High School. After high school, she attended Blinn College, where she rode the bus to Blinn from Bellville to Brenham. BJ enrolled at the University of Texas, earning her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and was in the graduating Class of 1942. She went to work as a chemist for NL Baroid in Houston and was the supervisor of analytical services. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi Sorority and was very proud of her Longhorn roots. She was a member of the Austin County Texas Ex’s and supported them throughout the years. She served many years as a Pink Lady with the Bellville Hospital Auxiliary and was Chairman of the Bellville Hospital District Board. There is even an outdoor area at the Bellville Hospital known as BJ’S veranda. She also served as a director on the Board of the Episcopal Church. She was Citizen of the Year in 2005 and received this award from the Bellville Lions Club. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening, and drinking her favorite beer. She loved and supported the St. Mary’s Episcopal Day School and her church. She loved all her friends and especially her church family. She was an honorary member of the esteemed group of Attorneys that she called the Scouts. BJ is survived by her loved ones: Charlene Wehring and her husband, Kenny, of Bellville, Tammy Hope of Bellville, Heather Rhodes and Lindsey Rhodes, both of Bellville, Spencer Wehring of Houston, Sara Busa and her husband, Danny, Jason Wehring and his wife, April, and Dallas Wehring and his wife, Meredith, all of Bellville, Emily, Allison, Cade, and Chandler Wehring, Kerigan Cline, Kinley Busa; bonus family: Betty Lyons, Robert Foote, Becky Zander, Patty Anderson, Laura Lyons, Jennifer Davis, Kevin Lyons, and Amber Phillips; and numerous friends and a comrade at St. Mary’s. She was preceded in death by her parents, R.H. and Wyona Lucille Jahnke and her favorite companion, Big Red. Pallbearers are Kenny Wehring, Spencer Wehring, Dallas Wehring, Garrett Dornon, Heather Rhodes, Chris Krupala, John Miller, and David Charpiot.
