Carvel Carter Baker

Carvel Baker, 81, went home to be with the Lord on June 2, 2018. He died from complications resulting from cardiovascular issues.Carvel is survived by his loving wife, LaNan, son Bradley Baker and wife Juanita, daughter Dorothy Alfakhouri and husband Mike, sister Shirley Bard, brother Hilton Baker and wife Mary Jo, and sister-in-law Sandy Baker. His parents, Ernest W. Baker and Stella Moore Baker, and his brother Joe Baker, precede him in death. Carvel is also survived by grandsons Benjamin Baker and Brian Baker, granddaughters Haley Beaudion and Madelin Beaudion, granddaughter Caprice Fuller and husband Chase, and great-grandson Zak.Carvel’s extended family includes Amy and Chris Blackmon and their children Liam, Celene, and Bailey,Sierra and Kyle Cook and their children Kenneth, Kinleigh, and Kaylin, DaLynn and Brooks Mistretta and their children Axel and Baz.Also calling him Papa were his neighbors Hansel, Samantha, and Jacob Mendoza.Carvel was born on October 8, 1936, in Louisville, KY.He graduated from Louisville Baptist High School in 1954, as the salutatorian. He served in the Army before attending Georgetown College, graduating with his BA in Economics in 1961. Carvel married Betty Sue Swann in 1959, and they welcomed their son Brad in 1966, followed soon after by their daughter Dottie. Carvel worked for American Air Filter in Louisville until a transfer in 1979 brought the family to Houston, Texas. Although Carvel and Sue divorced in 1985, he remained a loving presence in the lives of his children. Various jobs in the gas turbine industry kept him moving around the country until a return to Texas in the early 2000s. Carvel was married to Linda Haydel-Baker from 1990-2008. He remained close to her daughter Tara L. Tanner, granddaughters Ashley Tanner and Brooke Tanner, son Richard E. Wilson, grandsons Justin Wilson and Joseph Wilson.Carvel traveled extensively for both work and pleasure, and had a passion for photography.He loved meeting new people, and quickly made lasting friendships.His warmth and humor are already greatly missed. Although a dog person most of his life, Carvel and LaNan were recently adopted by their cat McGee, who misses her Dad terribly.Carvel considered himself a prodigal son, returning to his faith and the church, after nearly a 50-year absence, attending and growing in that faith at First Baptist Church in Bellville.Carvel remained an active pastor until this March, when his health kept him from serving his beloved Red Cabin Bible Church in Coushatte Ranch, just outside of Bellville TX.Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the:Bellville Christian Food BankP.O.
