Chuck Scianna, age 71 of Bellville, Texas, passed away peacefully January 14, 2025 surrounded by his family.  He was born June 22, 1953, in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi to Charles and Beverly Favre Scianna.  He attended school in Bay St. Louis and graduated from Bay High in 1971.  After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps 4th Marine division reserves.  Chuck attended the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated with a degree in Business Administration in August 1975 which provided him with a solid foundation that helped propel him to lifelong success in the business world.  While attending Southern Miss, he worked at A&P Food Store where he met “the girl on the box” (Rita) in April 1974 and married her in December 1974.  After graduation they moved to Houston, Texas where he got his start in the oil and gas industry. In 1986 he started Sim-Tex, LP, an oil country tubular goods wholesaler, which will continue with his amazing employees.

In 2013, Chuck was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame at USM and named distinguished Entrepreneur of the Year by the College of Business. In 2014, he was awarded the Heritage Award by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation in Quantico, Virginia.  In 2015 the new College of Business building at the University of Southern Mississippi was opened and named Scianna Hall.  William Carey University named its business building on their Mississippi Gulf Coast Campus Scianna Hall.  In May 2022 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree at his beloved USM.

Chuck was a strong supporter of education and considered his donations as investments for children, which many have been on the receiving end.  He was active in many organizations including serving on the board of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, Boys and Girls Country of Hockley, Texas where he served as President, president of the Waller Economic Development Corporation since 2006, USM Foundation Board, and the USM Athletic Board.  He supported both Austin and Waller County fair associations, Boys and Girls Country, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and the Weekly YMCA of Houston.

Besides his family, Chuck loved hunting.  His favorite was quail hunting, and he got great enjoyment watching his dogs go on point when finding a covey of quail.  His next favorite was prairie dog hunting with his favorite hunting buddies and seeing who could make the longest shot.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Beverly Scianna, brother, Peter, and niece, Blair Scianna.  He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rita, daughters Ashley (Clint) Sciba, Stephanie (William) Latham, and his precious granddaughters Claire, Keeleigh, Caroline, and Grace.  Brothers Stephen (Paula), Kenneth (Vicki), Paul (Paige), sisters Mary Ann (Mike) Benvenutti, Danita (Joey) Lattrell, Linda (Gary) Collinge and Julie (Harvey) Timberlake and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chuck’s greatest treasure in life was his family.  He was a man of integrity, strong faith in God and he had a huge heart that gave and gave until it gave out.  His generosity knew no bounds and he will be sorely missed by family and friends.
