Charles Gery Truitt

CHARLES GERY TRUITT, 88, of Bellville, Texas, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018.He was born April 16, 1930, in Houston, Texas, the son of Claude Ray and Audrey Cecilia (Gery) Truitt. Gery grew up and attended schools in the Houston and Corpus Christi areas. He accomplished many different things in his life including; being a great athlete and becoming the Texas State Champion in the 880-yard track race. He also was invited to tryout for the St. Louis Cardinals major league baseball team as a utility infielder, but is favorite hobby was playing golf and Gery had made one hole in one in his career. Gery was united in marriage to Barbara (Hail) Share for 18 years. They made their home in Barbara’s hometown of Bellville, where she was a Spicer Kindergarten teacher of 30 years. Gery had five children from a previous marriage and Barbara had two children and together they have a sweet dog that adopted them, and you would always see Gery clapping his hands and you would know he was calling, “Happy Girl”. Gery was a retired construction engineer and building contractor. He had worked two jobs most of his life to provide for his family and he continued working until the age of 74. Gery’s most notable work was doing historical restoration back in the 1970’s and 1980’s on many of the historical homes in Galveston and the San Jacinto Monument, and the Stephen F. Austin Park. Gery remembered this time in his life better than any other. Gery is survived by his wife: Barbara Truitt of Bellville; daughters: Tamra Truitt of Dallas, Brenda Schenthal of Miami, Florida and Lisa Goodwin of Douglas; sons: Brent Truitt of Karnes and Tim Truitt and his wife, Carol, of Willis; two step-sons: John Share of Houston and Robert Share and his wife, Deanna, of Bellville. He is also survived by his thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and his beloved dog “Happy Girl”.Gery is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Audrey Truitt, brother, Claude John Truitt, Jr. and grandson, William Tyler Truitt.Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to:St. Mary's Episcopal Church24 North MasonicBellville, Texas 77418
