Dan Austin Boren

March 1, 1925 — May 17, 2017

DAN AUSTIN BOREN, 92, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at his home in Brookshire, Texas with his two children at his side, as he went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.   Dan was born March 1, 1925, in Dallas, Texas, to parents Austin Travis Boren and Mary Elizabeth McFall Boren.  He grew up and attended school in Carthage, Texas where he graduated high school.   The day after graduation, Dan left his home and family to serve his country in the United States Army Air Corps.  During his 29 months of service, he was a radio operator and gunner on a B-24.  He participated in 43 combat missions throughout New Guinea, the Southern Philippines, the Dutch East Indies and China.  He was awarded the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters for meritorious service in combat.   On December 28, 1946, Dan married the love of his life, Mary Alice Parker, in Shreveport, Louisiana.  They made their home in San Marcos where they attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College together.  Three years later, Dan received his Masters Degree in Business Administration.  After graduation, they moved to several small towns in Texas including Agua Dulce, Premont and Bellville, before settling in Brookshire in 1963.   Dan has been an outstanding pillar of the community of Brookshire.  He’s always had an inner peace that came from his faith.  He has had trials and tribulations to deal with as all of us do - effects of World War II, losing a son, watching the love of his life pass away last July.  And he handled every moment with grace and was a shining example to everyone that knew and loved him.  His temperament was always consistent, his respect for others was unending.  He had no enemies, he cherished his family and friends, and most importantly, he loved his Lord, Jesus Christ.  Most important to Dan Boren was his faith, family and his community.  He always strived to be his best self and a good example of what a man should be.  He taught everyone about love and forgiveness, and he did it well.   Dan is survived by his children:  Glenn E. Boren and Kathryn (Kay) Boren; grandchildren:  Christopher Neelley, Austin Boren, Cortney Russell, Jordan Boren and Travis Boren; great grandchildren:  Kyle Boren, Haylee Boren, Coryn Russell, Collin Russell, Jaxon Boren and Ty Neelley; brother:  Allen Boren and wife, Ruby Lee; and many other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary Alice Boren, his son, Douglas Wayne Boren, grandson, Douglas Scott Boren, his parents, five brothers and his sister.   Dan Boren - Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend to so many - will be greatly missed by all.
