David Babtiste Charpiot passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at the age of 69. David was born on March 10, 1952 to Robert “Bob” Babtiste and Shirley Tucker Charpiot in Houston, Texas. David grew up in Bellville and graduated from Bellville High School in 1970. He excelled at sports as a young man and was a varsity letterman in baseball, basketball, football, and track. He attended Southwest Texas State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1975. David met his wife, Lura Ann Walker, while in college and belonged to a group of lifelong friends known as the Armadillos. Following their marriage in 1977, David and Lura moved to Houston, where he worked for Brown Oil Tools. A year following the birth of their first daughter, Elizabeth, they moved to Bellville where he worked with his father and uncle in the oil field construction business at Charpiot & Dunn—a company he would later own and operate. The couple’s second daughter, Natalie, joined the family shortly thereafter. While his daughters were growing up, David enjoyed supporting them at their tennis and volleyball games. And, as a hobby, he officiated junior high and high school basketball and volleyball games for over 20 years. David was an avid outdoorsman. As a child, he raised hogs, and in his early adult life, David owned a shooting club where he pen-raised pheasant, chucker, and quail. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending his free time at the ranch. His grandchildren shared his passion for the ranch and treasured having Poppi take them to look for cows and catch bass. David was a lifelong, active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. He was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Mary’s. As an adolescent, he served as an acolyte, and throughout his adult life, David served as an usher. He was a member of the Church's vestry and held the position of Senior Warden for multiple terms. He lived a productive life with an extraordinary commitment to his family, friends, and St. Mary’s Church. He will always be remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father, son, grandfather, brother and friend. David was preceded in death by his father, Robert Babtiste Charpiot. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Tucker Charpiot; his loving wife of 45 years, Lura Ann Charpiot; their two daughters, Elizabeth Charpiot Mackie and husband Jonathan of Houston and Natalie Charpiot Manfull and husband Bryan of Austin; and his beloved grandchildren, Betty Ann and Lucy Louise Manfull and William Hartman “Hart” Mackie. David is also survived by his brother, Robert Alexander Charpiot and wife Janet of Houston and his niece, Katie Charpiot Johnston and husband Jeremy of Houston. A memorial service will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 21st of February in the Sanctuary of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Bellville with the Reverend John Campbell officiating. In a final act of generosity, David donated his body to the UT McGovern Medical School for the advancement of science. His final resting place will be in the columbarium at St. Mary's.
