Demetra Ann (Dee) Lyons’ earthly journey ended and her Heavenly journey began on May 26, 2020 at her home in Bellville, Texas. She is currently laughing & praising God in Heaven. Her body and mind have been restored.
Demetra was born in Missouri on February 10, 1936 to Alvin and Clarene (McGee) Howell. Demetra was the eldest of seven children. She learned to love Jesus as a small child and attended church with her family whenever the doors were open. She loved to sing and listen to gospel music. Demetra married Charles Lyons, a U.S. Marine. As a military spouse, she created a home wherever the military would send them. She lived in Missouri, Louisiana, California, Nevada, Arkansas, and Texas. She had four children whom she dearly loved and whom she taught through her example to love God. Demetra was blessed with eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Demetra enjoyed cooking, going to church, and taking care of her grandchildren. She was a long-time member of Grace Community Church of Bellville. Demetra also enjoyed going to the Bleiblerville Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry that is held every May.
Demetra loved travel and adventure. During Charles’ two tours in Vietnam, she traveled to Japan and Hawaii to see him during his R&R leave. She later traveled with family members to Guam, Bali, Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, and Italy.
Demetra always had a funny story to tell about one of her adventures, children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren.
Demetra held many jobs during her life. First and foremost, she was a wife, mother, and grandmother; but she also worked as a supervisor in a Levi’s factory, a CNA at Colonial Bell Nursing Home and lastly as a cafeteria worker at Bellville High School.
