On October 31, 2018, on only her third night of solo patrol, Deputy Sheriff Loren Y. Vasquez, 23, of Brookshire, Texas, passed away while responding to a high-priority water rescue during severe storms.
Loren was born on March 2, 1995, in Reynosa, Mexico, the daughter of Adalberto and Blanca (Diosdado) Vasquez. After immigrating to the United States, Loren’s parents settled in the small town of Brookshire, Texas where she graduated from Royal High School, Class of 2013.
Loren lived her life to serve and give back to her community. Before becoming a law enforcement officer she worked with The Brookwood Community, a residential facility and vocational program for adults with disabilities. Loren was not only a Deputy for the Waller County Sheriff’s Department, she was also a Volunteer Fire Fighter for the city of Brookshire. Loren enjoyed shopping, but her mission in life was public service as exemplified by her career and volunteer choices.
Loren is survived by her parents: Adalberto and Blanca Vasquez of Brookshire; brother: Augustine Vasquez of Brookshire; grandmother: Maria Vasquez of Brookshire; grandfather: Espiridion Diosdado Soto of Nuevo Progreso, Mexico; fiancé: Luis Cortez of South Houston; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Cipriana Olquin Hernera, and grandfather, Aurelio Vasquez.
