Dorothy (Ignasiak) Sistrunk

Dorothy (Ignasiak) Sistrunk, 89, of Bellville, Texas, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024, in her home, where she loved to be.

Dorothy was born December 22, 1934, in Bellville, the daughter of Joe and Virgie (Krusleski) Ignasiak.  Dorothy grew up in Bellville Texas with her four siblings:  Victor Ignasiak, Rosealee Zediker, Floralee Duval, and Janette Cooper.

Dorothy worked in the cotton fields most of her life, but on the weekends, she worked at Mewis Cafe where she met her future husband, Charles Sistrunk.  They were married after only dating for 6 weeks. They went on dates to the outdoor movie theater, to dances, and riding with her parents.  They also enjoyed eating at drive-in restaurants. Dorothy and Charles were married on January 24, 1951, in Bellville.  They made their home in Louisiana before returning to Bellville in 1967.  For many years Dorothy was the manager at the Bill’s Dollar Store in Bellville around the square.

Together with her daughter, Wanda, Dorothy earned her GED.  She then attended cosmetology school and opened her beauty shop, Dorothy’s Salon.  She also spent time doing hair at the nursing homes in Bellville. She was known for being a caretaker, she took care of everyone around her and never complained. She will be greatly missed by all who know her.

Dorothy enjoyed gardening and her yard was always immaculate!  She treasured the time she could spend with her family, especially her grandsons.  She was very fond of animals.  She had a great-great-granddog named Willie and was very devoted to her dogs named Cooper and Susu.

She is survived by her son:  Charles Sistrunk of Bellville; daughter:  Jennifer and Patrick M McCarthy, and her granddaughter she raised: Rachel Pfeffer; grandchildren:  Charity Sistrunk, Sarah and Clint Buenger of Bleiblerville, and Stacy and Justin Enzor of Cypress; great-grandchildren:  Haleigh Meyer and Anthony Hernandez of Victoria, Kohen and Connor Johnson of Bellville, Jack and Ryan Buenger of Bleiblerville, Max and Hadley Enzor of Cypress.  And many more friends and family including Carolyn Ferber.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Virgie Ignasiak, her husband, Charles Sistrunk, her daughter, Wanda Pfeffer, her brother, Victor Ignasiak, and her sister, Roselee Zedker.

We want to give a special thanks to Acara Hospice and Becky Zander for the care they gave Dorothy in her final days.

After the graveside, we will resume at Newman's Bakery to share memories of our sweet, sweet Dorothy!
