DUANE DAVID HEFFNER, 43, of Wharton, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 23, 2024, in Richmond, Texas, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Duane made an early arrival on St. Patrick's’ Day, March 17, 1981. In the spirit of the occasion, the delivery nurse commented, “He’s ok. Just a little green.” Duane was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church. At a young age, Duane was not a fan of school, but loved to build. He was imaginative and would design play forts with his cousins, cardboard box condominiums, and everything in between. Duane went on to work for some of the largest home builders in Houston.
Duane had a big heart. He loved “old people and kids” and would help in any way he could, but his greatest love was for animals. Strays always seemed to find their way to his door. Duane got involved with online gaming after he was unable to work. He became an administrator which gave him the opportunity to become friends with people all over the world.
He is survived by his mom and stepfather: Cynthia and Frank; aunt/godmother and uncle: Tammy and Sam Kelley of Leon Springs; cousins: Jamie and wife, Natalie, Nehrkorn and Craig and wife, Jennifer, Nehrkorn, both of Austin; dear friends: Shirley and John Wilczak of Iola; numerous cousins; and his four fur babies: Buddy, Levi, Woofe, and Crayon.
Duane was preceded in death by his grandparents, Evelyn and Alburney Nehrkorn and Margaret and Walter Heffner, several uncles, and an aunt.
A Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
Those who wish may make memorial donations to the animal shelter of your choice.
