EDWARD BURKE “Pete” GAY, 79, of Bellville, Texas, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022, at his home.
He was born August 23, 1943, in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of Charles Curtis and Otey Abilene (Kressenberg) Gay. Pete grew up and attended schools in the Memphis area, graduating from Tredwell High School, and later graduating from Christian Brothers University. He was united in marriage to Patricia Rebecca Pittman, on August 12, 1967, in Memphis. Pete worked his entire career as an aerospace engineer contributing to NASA human spaceflight projects – Apollo, Space Shuttle, Skylab, and International Space Station. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Bellville where he was an active volunteer. He greatly enjoyed meeting with friends every Thursday for coffee and conversation. Additionally, Pete took great joy in reading, tending to his yard, fishing, and woodwork.
Pete loved and sacrificed greatly for his wife and children. He befriended all he met. Above all, he served the Lord until his last days.
Pete is survived by his wife of 55 years: Patricia Gay of Bellville; sons: Chad Gay and his wife, Renee, of Richmond, Jason Gay and his wife, Valerie, of Spring, and Jonathan Gay and his wife, Lindsay, of Apex, North Carolina; seven grandchildren: Emily, Abbey, Daniella, Joshua, Riley, Austin, and Tyler; and several nieces, nephews, other family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Otey Gay; and his brother: Charles Curtis Gay, Jr.
