Elvis "Muddy" Lunsford

February 10, 1947 — March 13, 2018

ELVIS N. "MUDDY" LUNSFORD, 71, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in Houston, Texas.  He was born on February 10, 1947 in Bellville Texas, the son of Barney "Bones" and Bessie June (Cloyd) Lunsford. Muddy grew up in Bellville, attended Bellville schools, and graduated with the Bellville High School class of 1966.  He was baptized on March 10, 1957 at First Baptist Church, Bellville, later joining Bellville United Methodist Church after the birth of his oldest son.  Muddy worked for the Texas Department of Transportation in Hempstead for 31 years, before retiring in 2001 as Assistant Maintenance Supervisor.  Muddy greeted everyone with "How's it going?", and loved to joke and cut-up with people.  You could often find him mowing or shredding.  He was fascinated by cars, old and new, especially Fords, and would often talk about his favorites from "back in the 50's".  Muddy was a tremendous influence on his sons' knowledge of music.  He especially enjoyed listening to 50's artists such as Buddy Holly, Jan & Dean, some of the 70's and 80's country artists, Johnny Cash, and his favorite, Elvis Presley.  (Muddy was named after his grandfather, not Elvis Presley).  The radio in his vehicle was always on, and he loved to sing along. Muddy is survived by his sons, Brandon Lunsford of Bellville and girlfriend, Kelli Lewis of Brenham; Brian Lunsford and fiance, Kelli Marinucci of Bellville, and her daughter, Madeline; his sister, Molly Gonzales of Bellville; uncle, H.J. "Junior" White of Brenham; mother of his sons, Barbara Mittanck Lunsford of Bellville; former mother-in-law, Dorothy Mittanck of Bellville; along with nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and special friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.Friends who wish may make memorials in "Muddy's" name to the charity of their choice.
