Evelyn Streckfuss

May 19, 1923 — December 17, 2020

Evelyn A. Streckfuss entered her eternal rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 16, 2020.

Evelyn was born May 19, 1923 in Amarillo, Texas to Fred Wilhelm and Emma Jeanette Warren Moore. After her father’s untimely death, when Evelyn was just 18 months old, she and her mother moved often within the state of Texas, from Abilene to Walnut Springs to Armstrong to Belton to Stephenville where she graduated High School at the age of 17. She attended East Texas State University, from 1940 to 1942, completing three years of college credit within 24 months. She went to Pittsburg, Texas, in 1942, and taught Science in high school from 1942-1943 at the age of 19. In 1943, in the midst of World War II, she moved again to Bakersfield, CA, living with her sister and brother-in-law until 1946. She once stated her time in California was a fun and exciting time for her as she worked for the Weather Bureau and she always felt a bit guilty that it was such a fun time for her as World War II raged.

From 1946 to 1947, she attended Scott and White Medical Technology training school and became a Certified Medical Technologist. One of the physicians she trained under moved his practice to Corpus Christi and asked her to come along to run the laboratory. In January of 1948, a handsome man named Ralph entered the laboratory she managed. His job was to install an X-Ray machine and train the lab manager in its use. His “darkroom” training technique worked and the lab manager agreed on a lunch date and the rest, as they say, is history. Evelyn married Ralph John Streckfuss, in Belton, Texas, on June 5, 1948. They moved to Tyler, Texas and while there were blessed with two sons, Fred Martin in February, 1951 and John Robert in May, 1953. In 1956, they moved their young family to Brookshire, Texas. There they added two girls to their clan, Betty Sue in April of 1959 and Anita Jeanette in July of 1960.

Evelyn was a homemaker, ranch hand, caregiver to elderly relatives and an active participant in many areas of church work. She was raised in the Baptist Church. During her residency in Brookshire, she became an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Pattison. There she taught Sunday School classes as well as played the organ for regular church services for years. She served her community by serving on the Brookshire-Royal ISD from 1966 to 1970. She also enjoyed her time being a member of the Waller County A&M Mother’s Club.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her father, mother, sisters (Gladys Barnes, Eula Hamrick, Beryl Moore) and brother (Harold Moore), her husband, Ralph Streckfuss, and her daughter-in-law Linda Levassar Streckfuss.

Evelyn is survived by her four children, Fred Streckfuss of Brookshire, John Streckfuss of Bellville, Betty McCormick (husband Ricky) of Brookshire and Anita Bruck (husband Mike) of McKinney, Texas; eight grandchildren, Audrey (husband Derrick) Jones, Madison Streckfuss, Candice McCormick, Emma McCormick, Annie Bruck, Ella Bruck, Adam Bruck and Hannah Bruck; and two great-granddaughters, Lydia and Amelia Jones; numerous nieces and nephews.
