Gail Cheryl (Nelius) Newman

GAIL CHERYL (NELIUS) NEWMAN, 65, of Bellville, Texas, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2022, in Bellville.

She was born August 21, 1956, in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Fritz Lee and Margie Pauline (Watson) Nelius.  Gail grew up and attended schools in the Piney and Bellville area, graduating from Bellville High School.  After graduation, she attended Prairie View A&M University, from 1987 to 1991, earning her Bachelor of Arts – Social Worker.  Gail graduated with honors in the National Honors Society of Social Workers.  She worked as a long-term Care Profession during her career.  Gail was extremely proud of the licenses she obtained; Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Licensed Social Worker (LSW), and Licensed Nursing Facility Administrator (LNFA).

Gail was united in marriage to Maurice Newman, in Bellville, on September 9, 1994.

She was proud of her Scottish Ancestry.  In her spare time, Gail enjoyed painting, sewing, and reading.  She also enjoyed her daily conversations with God, attending Care and Share Bible Study and the Saturday night service at St. John.  The love of her life was the time she spent with her grandchildren, her pride and joy.

Gail was a member of the American Cancer Society, St. John Bible study group, Allumine Health Agency, Meal on Wheels, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Gail is survived by her husband: Maurice Newman of Bellville; daughters: Andrea Murphy and her husband, Craig, of College Station, and Amanda Osterbuhr and her husband, Donnie; son: Adrian Gutierrez of Colorado; grandchildren: Cort and his wife, Dyanna Murphy, Grant Murphy, Abigail Murphy, Donel Osterbuhr, Christopher Osterbuhr, Tony Osterbuhr, and Joe Osterbuhr; great-grandson: Rawley Ace Murphy; brothers: Fritz Nelius and his wife, Sandra, of Bellville, Wayne Nelius of Fort Worth, and Howard Nelius and his wife, Pam, of Louisiana; sister: Margie Folsom of Amarillo; brother-in-law: CJ (Butch) Newman; sisters-in-law: Pattie Burgess, Sherrie Lehman, Lesia Schwarze and her husband, Bradley; life-long best friend: Martha Couch and her husband, Danny; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear work family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Fritz and Margie Pauline Nelius.

Pallbearers were Cort Murphy, Grant Murphy, Abigail Murphy, Donel Osterbuhr, Christopher Osterbuhr, Tony Osterbuhr, Joe Osterbuhr, Brett Nelius, and Joseph Newman.

Honorary Pallbearers were Heather Tarrillion, Amy Crenan, Will Crenan, Michael Heins, Melissa Lehman, Patrick Couch, Randy Couch, Savannah Nelius, Jake Folsom, and Allison Nelius.
