With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Gary Louis Gross, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community member, on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the age of 78. Gary, a resident of New Ulm, Texas, peacefully left this world at Mid-Coast Medical Center in Bellville.
Born on May 8, 1946, in La Grange, Texas, to Glen and Florence Altman Gross, Gary's life was a testament to his resilience and dedication. He spent his formative years around the New Ulm and Industry area, before embarking on a journey of service and self-improvement. His time in the United States Army, serving in Vietnam, instilled in him a strong sense of duty and shaped his character. Following his honorable discharge, he earned his GED, a testament to his commitment to personal growth.
On August 19, 1972, Gary married the love of his life, Shirley Krause, in Nelsonville, Texas. Together, they built a life and a legacy in the New Ulm/Industry area, where they successfully ran their own construction company. Beyond his professional life, Gary was a pillar of his community, generously volunteering his time with the Industry Volunteer Fire and Rescue. His passions extended beyond service, encompassing cherished time spent on the family hunting land in the Texas Hill Country and enjoying the tranquility of their coastal home.
Gary leaves behind a rich tapestry of love and memories. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 52 years, Shirley; his son, Kevin, and Kevin's special friend, Karen Marek, along with Karen’s sons Casey and Alex; his daughter, Crystal Meissner, and husband Jerrad; his son, Spencer, and wife Samantha; and his cherished grandchildren: Elizabeth Gross, Kannon, Keagan, Korbyn Meissner, and Paisley Gross. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sandra Gross; brother-in-law, Edward Jr., and wife Lorinda Krause.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Florence; his brother, Glenn Gross; and his in-laws, Edward Sr. and Benolye Zettel Krause.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gary's memory to: Industry Volunteer Fire and Rescue a cause close to his heart. His contributions to the community will be deeply missed.
