George Thomas Maguire, 81, of Brenham, TX passed away at his home Sunday, April 21, 2024.
He was born November 2, 1942, to Clarence Richard Maguire and Frances Duval Gonzales Maguire in Galveston, TX.
George graduated from Ball High School in 1961 in Galveston, TX. He immediately joined the United States Air Force and completed basic training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. He was transferred to Kessler Air Force Base for technical training and completed enlistment as a digital technician at Mount Lemmon, Arizona.
Through a NASA contractor on the East Coast, George worked in the Apollo program as a Field Engineer responsible for the antenna positioning system on the USNS Vanguard, one of the contact ships stationed around the world used for spaceship communication. While on the Vanguard, George worked on two major space-related programs: Project Apollo – Apollo 8, “First Manned Saturn V launch and First Manned Lunar Orbit” (Dec 1968); Apollo XI – The First Manned Lunar Landing Mission (July 1969). He continued working in the defense and private industries as a system designer, programmer analyst, and senior project leader.
In the early 1990s, George returned to Texas and founded TMT Sales. His company promoted the science of magnets to improve water quality and equipment performance. He was a lifelong student who enjoyed learning, researching, and teaching.
George was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Frances Maguire, sister Patricia Anne Maguire, and brother Robert Michael Maguire.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rachel Maguire, his brother: Richard Duval Maguire, Montgomery, Texas; son: Michael Lee Maguire and Michelle, Linthicum Heights, Maryland; daughter: Caren Renee Maguire, Hampshire, England; step-daughters: Monica Marie Straka and husband Scott; Brenda Lee Wainscott-Stamatis and husband Paul; grandchildren: Megan, Melanie, and Johnny Maguire, Enrique Gonzales; Rees, Jase, Seth, and Alex Straka; Lucas, Drake, Rex, and Ruby Stamatis.
