Gladys Laas

Gladys Pierce Laas of Bellville, Texas, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023, at the age of 87.

Gladys was born on August 20, 1935, in Houston, Texas, to parents, Leslie and Elizabeth Arnold Pierce. She attended school in Galena Park and pursued a degree in nursing after graduating.  She attended the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing degree.  She worked in the downtown Houston medical center before becoming the Director of Nurses at Bellville Hospital. In 1959, Gladys married the love of her life, Robert Laas, and they had forty-seven years together.  Gladys was a caregiver by nature and took care of those around her. When she wasn’t caring for her patients, Gladys liked to spend her free time traveling, camping, and fishing with her family, tending to her flowers and painting rocks and ceramics. She was a strong woman of faith and was an active member of Bellville Church of Christ for many years.

Gladys is survived by her sister, Joyce Pierce; children, Dan Laas and his wife, Jessica, Sherry Broberg and her husband, Steve, and Don Laas; grandchildren, Matt and his wife, Kim, Kate and her husband, Kris, Laura, Lee, Kyle, and Michelle; great-grandchildren, Alex, Haley, Megan, and Declan; and friend, Mary Louise Young.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Elizabeth Pierce, and her husband, Robert Laas.

The family would like to give special thanks to Gladys’s caregivers, especially Gwen Turner.

Pallbearers are Dan Laas, Don Laas, Matthew Laas, Kyle Laas, Kris Bliesner, and Gary Baker.
